FFC Frankfurt prepares to receive the German Cup and be showered with confetti. That's Krieger first row, second from the right.
Defender Ali Krieger joined the U.S. team today fresh off her club FFC Frankfurt's 2-1 victory over Turbine Potsdam in the German Women's Cup Final, a match witnessed by 20,311 fans (you think they are ready for the Women's World Cup over there in Germany?) at Rhein Energie Stadion in Köln. Krieger played the full 90 minutes at right back in what was her final club game in Germany after spending four years playing for Frankfurt. It was a wonderful way for Krieger to end her time in Germany. The victory gave Frankfurt a measure of revenge after falling just short to the Berlin club in the race for the league title. Although Krieger did not train today (she just went on a long jog), the U.S. team did play some full field with Heather O'Reilly scoring the lone goal of the 30-minute scrimmage on a breakaway.
