The U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team scored five second-half goals to put away Cal FC 6-2 during Sunday’s scrimmage match at U.S. Soccer’s National Training Center.
Solar Chelsea product Alfred Koroma scored two goals, including the game-winner in the 68th minute to give the U-20s a 3-0 lead. Cal FC responded with back-to-back goals to cut the U-20 MNT’s lead to 3-2, but Benji Joya, Dillon Serna and Koroma scored three late goals from the 88th minute into second-half stoppage time – Koroma’s tally being his second of the match – to seal the victory.
Danny Garcia scored the game’s opening goal in the 16th minute as the USA went into halftime with a 1-0 lead. The Chicago Fire’s Victor Pineda also added a goal for the U.S. in the 48th minute.
The match capped of the U-20 MNT’s training camp as the squad prepares for the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey. The U.S. opens Group A play of the tournament against Spain on Friday, June 21, at Ali Sami Yen Arena in Istanbul.
