MNT May 30, 2010
What a Send-Off. A rollicking a patriotic crowd of over 55,000 sent the USA off to the World Cup in style today, lending their support to the 2-1 victory over Turkey. A great second half from the U.S. team and goals by Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey as well as two more masterful defense-unlocking passes from Landon Donovan sent the fans home happy and surely buzzing for the World Cup. There is, however, still much work to do before the USA opens the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa on June 12 against England, including a match against Australia on June 5 at Ruimsig Stadium in Roodepoort. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. local time (8:30 a.m. ET), and the match will be broadcast live on ESPN2. The MNT Blog may be taking a short hiatus here as the team and staff will travel to South Africa tomorrow, and if you've ever been to South Africa, you know it takes a long time to get there. If you don't hear from us for a day for so, know that we will be back blogging strong from South Africa once we touch down. South Africa here we come!
