Alonso Hernandez tallied a goal and an assist to lead the USA to a victory against Esperanca Lagos on Tuesday in Portugal.
LAGOS, Portugal – The U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team played a 90-minute scrimmage game against local club team Esperanca Lagos on Tuesday and scored three times in the second half for a 3-0 victory.
Alonso Hernandez scored a 49th-minute goal and assisted Luis Gil’s tally in the 64th minute. Danny Garcia also scored an insurance goal in the 83rd minute.
The USA had its share of chances in the first half, particularly on set pieces, but both teams went into the half level at 0-0. But the game opened up for the U.S. in the second half when Hernandez scored an unassisted goal as Esperanca Lagos’ goalkeeper got caught well off of his line and couldn’t intercept.
Hernandez pushed into the attack again about 15 minutes later, and when his defender collapsed, Hernandez dropped the ball back to Gil who rushed on and slotted his shot inside the right post for a 2-0 cushion.
Garcia capped off the scoring with a shot just above the 18-yard box for a 3-0 advantage.
