Michael Bradley has joined Aston Villa on loan following the completion of a medical exam. The 23-year-old midfielder, who has 50 caps and eight goals for the U.S. Men's National Team, will be with Villa until the end of the 2010-11 campaign. He is the third U.S. international on the books at Aston Villa, joining Brad Friedel and Eric Lichaj. Brad Guzan remains on loan to Hull City through the end of February.
"I am really excited to be joining Villa,” Bradley said in a statement released by Aston Villa. “I am proud and thrilled and can’t wait to get going now. Everyone can see that Aston Villa that is a big club, a fantastic club, with tradition and great supporters. Over the past few years Villa have made big strides and are trying to challenge at the very top of the Premier League. I am excited to be part of that and I am excited to be here."
Added Villa boss Gerard Houllier: "Michael is is a very hard-working midfielder who can score goals and is versatile. I saw him play four times at the World Cup in South Africa. I saw him once on TV but four times at the games for the national team, so in terms of scouting you cannot say the work has not been done. We’re pleased that he is here at Aston Villa.”
Bradley could be available as early as Saturday for his side's home match against Fulham, pending the completion of his international transfer and work visa.
