U.S. Men’s National Team and AZ Alkmaar forward Jozy Altidore found the win column as AZ Alkmaar defeated midfielder Sacha Kljestan’s RSC Anderlecht 1-0 on Thursday in the knockout stage of the Europa League. Kljestan played the full 90 minutes while Altidore saw about 14 minutes of play as a second-half sub.
In other Europa League action, Hannover 96 defender Steve Cherundolo started against Club Brugge and played for 75 minutes. Cherundolo departed the match when the score was tied at 1-1, but Hannover found the back of the net about five minutes after the substitution for a 2-1 victory.
Sporting Lisbon defender Oguchi Onyewu played the full 90 minutes against Legia Warsaw for a 2-2 draw.
Schalke 04 midfielder Jermaine Jones played the full 90 minutes against Club Brugge as Schalke pulled off a 1-1 draw with a second-half equalizer.
