The U.S. team was going to have a light training yesterday after arriving but was a bit delayed and the weather was drizzly, so the team did gym workouts. That meant today was the first on-field training of what could be up to six practices before the USA meets Sweden on Jan. 21 to open the competition. The practice field was in excellent shape, soft and green (something not often found in January in China) and the 23 U.S. players had a short but high-energy session. Many of the players reported that they weren't that sharp, but that's to be expected after the long trip to Asia. The U.S. team had quite a few fans watch training (see below), probably as much for the novelty of a group of obviously talented female players as for the soccer itself.
