Could there be a USA-Japan rematch in the cards for the 2012 Olympic Games? Japan has just booked its spot in London with a 2-0 win against Bahrain and joins South Korea as the two AFC representatives. Belarus, Brazil, Britain, Egypt, Gabon, Morocco, Spain, Switzerland and Uruguay have also qualified.
When the U.S. Under-23s and Japan met in Beijing in 2008, the Americans emerged victorious with a 1-0 score in their first group game. Stuart Holden sealed the win, but after tying the Netherlands 2-2 and falling to Nigeria 2-1, the U.S. was out of the Olympics.
The U-23 MNT is in Nashville, Tenn., right now for its first day of practice in preparation for the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying tournament, and Group A play kicks off on March 22! We'll find out soon if the USA will be joining Japan for another Men's Olympic Football Final...
