Amy LePeilbet lets a shot fly during training
The U.S. WNT players have had different lengths of breaks (many depending on when their WPS seasons ended) and some players have been busier off the field than others, but to a player, all said it was good to get back on the practice field together again. The players admit they may not be as sharp as they were a few months ago in Germany, but they are looking forward to putting on an entertaining show in the next two matches which should feature most if not all of the U.S. roster as U.S. head coach Pia Sundhage will try to get everyone some playing time.
One player that won't be playing in Kansas City is stalwart midfielder Shannon Boxx, who is missing this game due to a family commitment. She'll join the team in Portland and be available for the Sept. 22 clash with Canada.

The U.S. team took some time before training on Thursday to spend some time with young cancer patient Sara Clarke, who is fighting the good fight and actually got released from the hospital to come meet the team. The players gave her a signed jersey and program and spent some quality time chatting before training.
