Conor Doyle in Friday's ScrimmageForward Conor Doyle made the short trip to Germany from England, where he's currently playing with Derby County. The season has been going well for the Rams so far and they sit near the playoff spots, though there's still a long way to go in the season.
"After about 16 games, we're pretty happy with our position," Conor told us after training. "Personally, I was out injured for about the first 4 weeks, and now i'm starting to get back into everything with my fitness. I'm getting a bit of playing time so everything is going good."
It's actually been pretty nice weather here in Germany this week. Nonetheless, it's still pretty chilly and there's some fog. The field is wet and slick. Sounds a bit like life in England!
"I'm loving it there," Doyle said. "The coaching staff is great and the players make it such a close-knit team. It's been really good."
And speaking of close-knit, it's been an enjoyable reunion for a lot of the players from the previous U-20 cycle. Doyle hadn't seen his former teammates for a few months before he came into camp last week. In addition to the tough soccer and all-out training sessions, it's been 10 days to hang out with friends and share some laughs.
"To be back in, especially with a bunch of the U-20 guys we went through qualifying with is nice," said Doyle. "It's nice to see everyone, catch up and see how everyone is doing."
