Under cool grey skies, the first group of players were on the field this morning at the training site for the Cruz Azul academy. Nestled in a quiet corner of a neighborhood in the city, a plush green pitch awaited the 10 players who put in an hour's worth of work to get the travel out of their legs. After a long warm-up, they played 7 v. 2 followed by a four-goal game on a small-sided field. All the Mexican-Americans were on the field, and both Steven Beitashour and Matt Besler got their first run out wearing the U.S. crest. And then they got their first taste of cold tubs here!
Back at the hotel, the players who arrived last night and early this morning like DaMarcus Beasley, Kyle Beckerman, Tim Howard, Fabian Johnson, Jermaine Jones, Nick Rimando and Danny Williams underwent the battery of fitness evaluations that have become the standard for each camp since Jurgen Klinsmann took over.
A second session awaits this afternoon in which all available players will participate. Tonight is the first team meeting followed by a nutrition education seminar.
