The USA beat Jamaica 2-0 in the CONCACAF Gold Cup. The sides will meet again in World Cup qualifying next year.
World Cup qualifying is underway in CONCACAF. Games have been going all day and there's a full slate of qualifiers tonight. Of course the USA has a bye in the second round so it won't be in World Cup qualifying action until June of 2012. The USA has been drawn in Group A with Jamaica in the semifinal round, as well as two teams to be determined from second round play. Those two other teams will be the winners of Group E and Group F. Today Group E and Group F get underway (along with Groups A-D) and here's what we're looking at for next year's potential U.S. opponents:
Grenada lost at home to Belize to open Group E play. Guatemala plays host to St. Vincent / Grenadines at 10 p.m. tonight.
In Group F Haiti defeated US Virgin Islands 6-0 and Antigua and Barbuda is taking on Curacao.
Other interesting matchups tonight? Canada hosting St. Lucia and El Salvador vs. Dominican Republic. All the teams will play their second game of the second round on Sept. 6.
