Brad Guzan's first season as a starter has been quite the challenge. With a new manager assembling a group of younger players, Guzan has been called upon to be a leader in the squad that finds itself fighting to avoid relegation while he works to cement the spot he worked so hard to obtain for four years.
To listen to him before tonight's game against second-place and BPL defending champion Manchester City, he sure sounds like the man Aston Villa needs to be out in front as a veteran, and a behind them as a confident 'keeper.
"You have to prepare as if you’re going into a Cup final," Guzan said of all the games ahead, starting with tonight. "Because of the situation we’re in, each game has a little bit more importance to it. In saying that, you can’t get ahead of yourself. There’s nothing to fear. Yes, they have world class players. But that’s why you become a professional soccer player. You want to play against the best in big time games underneath the lights on a Monday night. This is what it’s about."
