Due to her participation on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, U.S. goalkeeper Hope Solo will not be attending training camp in Arizona and has been replaced on the roster by Val Henderson of the Philadelphia Independence. After a tremendous performance in two dances on Monday, Solo was voted through and advanced to the semifinals of the dance competition show on Tuesday night.
Henderson played very well last season in place of Women’s World Cup Team goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart while she was in Germany, starting nine games and allowing just 0.89 goals per game. Henderson was the USA’s starting goalkeeper at the 2006 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Russia.
Solo will return to training with the USA for the team's extended camp in December as the squad gets ready for the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Vancouver, B.C. in January.
