Jozy Altidore celebrated his 22nd birthday by scoring his eighth goal in all competitions as he helped AZ Alkmaar to a 3-0 victory in the Dutch Eredivisie.
After battling through a round of midweek Europa League contests, the Americans in Europe took on teams in their respecitve domestic leauges. Here is a recap of this weekend's games.
Jozy Altidore started and played 86 minutes in AZ Alkmaar's 3-0 victory against ADO Den Haag in the Dutch Eredivisie, and the side remains at the top of the table by a margin of five points. Altidore made a daring run through the center of defense, working a nice combination before rounding the 'keeper to score AZ's third goal. Watch it here.
Carlos Bocanegra and Maurice Edu both started in Rangers' 3-1 win against Dundee United. Alejandro Bedoya came on in the 74th minute, and the three Americans helped Rangers remain at the top of the Scottish Premier League a full 12 points ahead of second-place Celtic.
Michael Bradley played the full 90 minutes for Chievo Verona as the team got back to winning ways, defeating Fiorentina 1-0. The victory pushed Chievo up to 14th in the Serie A.
Edson Buddle earned a rare road start as Ingolstadt fell 3-2 to Karlsruhe in the Second Bundesliga. The team's leading goal scorer was substituted at the half, and the German side slid down to last place in the table.
Timmy Chandler played 90 minutes as Nurnberg lost to Freiburg despite taking the lead first and creating plenty of scoring chances. The 1-2 loss was not enough to send the German side further down the Bundesliga table, and it remains at 15.
Clint Dempsey went the distance in Fulham's 3-1 defeat against Tottenham, Fulham's only goal coming courtesy of Spurs's Younes Kaboul. After falling behind, Fulham were unlucky not to take more from the game, and they battled vigorously with their London rivals. There were numerous late chances for Fulham, with only some late goal-line heroics from Spurs' midfielder Luka Modric coming between Dempsey and an equalizer. The loss moved the Cottagers down to 16th in the league while Spurs stayed fifth.
Tim Howard played the full 90 minutes of Everton's 2-1 loss against Newcastle. The Magpies took the lead after an unfortunate John Heitinga own goal, and though Everton pulled one back just before halftime, it was not enough to earn the side a point. Everton now sits just below Fulham in the table.
Jermaine Jones started for Schalke 04 and picked up his third yellow card of the season as his side tied 2-2 against Steve Cherundolo's Hannover 96. Cherundolo did not play in this match, and Schalke and Hannover sit back-to-back in the Bundesliga at fith and sixth, respectively.
Fabian Johnson continued his starting streak at Hoffenheim as the team tied against Kaiserslautern 1-1. Danny Williams came on at 60 minutes and eight minutes later earned his second yellow card of the season. The tie kept Hoffenheim ninth in the Bundesliga.
Sacha Kljestan went the distance as Anderlecht lost 0-1 against Cercle Brugge on the road. After a midweek 3-0 victory against Strum Graz, Anderlecht suffered its second loss of the season. The side is safe at the top of the table, still three points clear of second place.
Jonathan Spector started and played 90 minutes as Birmingham City lost 1-0 against Reading. Though Birmingham sit 13th in the Championship, the side is only four points shy of the final spot for playoff contention.
