The U.S. team had its first training this morning since it arrived in Germany in what can be described as "cool" weather. It has been hot, hot, hot so far...but apparently there was a big storm coming in from the Alps and it served to bring some cloud cover, cooler temperatures and eventually in the afternoon, lots of rain. The USA got its training in without a drop, but the rain did put a damper on an afternoon excursion to the city center of Augsburg. The rain is supposed to persist through the night and through Saturday, but the forecast is for clear, albeit cloudy, skies during the USA's quarterfinal against Nigeria. The USA trained at the Rosenaustadion which was was built in 1949 using debris from the aerial bombings during WWII. The venue was the home of FC Augsburg before the sparkling new arena was built for the team that will host the USA-Nigeria match. The full U.S. WNT played Germany in the first international match at the stadium last October, winning 1-0 in front of a sold-out crowd of almost 30,000.
