The USA and North Korea will meet once again on the international soccer pitch as the U-17s finish Group B play on Sept. 29 at the 2012 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup against the rising Asian power.
The USA played North Korea in the two previous FIFA world championships this year -- the 2012 Olympics and the 2012 FIFA U-20 WWC -- and the two squads also squared off in the championship game of the first FIFA U-17 WWC in 2008.
The USA lost that match in Zealand by a 2-1 score, but of course these are two different teams with different players.
The U.S. players are basking in the magnitude of this game, embracing the challenge, and looking forward to one of the biggest games of their young lives with the knowledge that they will likely need a win to advance to the quarterfinals, unless Gambia can produce an epic defensive performance against France.
In short, this is what playing in a World Cup is all about.
Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more...
