U.S. U-17 WNT head coach Albertin Montoya held his first training in Guatemala City on Saturday afternoon as the squad stretched their legs for the first time in Central America. The USA will have about a week of training before opening the 2012 CONCACAF U-17 Women's Championship on May 3 against the Bahamas (4 p.m. ET) and as Guatemala is on Mountain Time, the players will have little jet lag as they prepare for the eight-team competition.
The tournament will be played on an artificial surface at Estadio Cementos Progreso so the team trained on the fake stuff today. The 20 players chosen for this qualifying roster are healthy, energetic and more than excited for a tournament they have been waiting over a year to participate in.
Said forward Emily Bruder: "We are really motivated to qualify for World Cup. We want to be the first U.S. U-17 team to win the World Cup, but first we have to qualify and we know that like us, every team is going to be playing really hard."
