Jermaine Jones squares off against Fabian Johnson and Danny Williams this weekend
This weekend's fixture list has lined up a few meetings between fellow U.S. internationals, including the all-important playoff variety.
Saturday, Oct. 29
Jermaine Jones vs. Fabian Johnson and Danny Williams (Schalke-Hoffenheim): A big match for both sides as only two points separate them in the table, Schalke sitting in third place and Hoffenheim five below. Jermaine Jones has enjoyed a resurgence at Schalke since Huub Stevens was installed as head coach, now earning regular minutes. Fabian Johnson has recovered from the neck injury and has seen recent action for Hoffenheim, having been paired in the midfield along with Danny Williams.
Sunday, Oct. 30
ESPN2, 3:30 p.m. ET
Landon Donovan vs. Juan Agudelo and Tim Ream (LA Galaxy-New York Red Bulls): The marquee playoff matchup that few MLS fans expected to occur has materialized after Red Bulls made the playoff cut before upsetting FC Dallas on the road in the wild card game. The Supporters Shield winners captained by Donovan head to Red Bull Arena for the first leg of the conference semifinals for what will be the most high-profile playoff game of the weekend.
Fox Soccer, 7:30 p.m. ET
Teal Bunbury vs. Jeff Larentowicz (Sporting Kansas City-Colorado Rapids): Sporting KC enter the playoffs as one of the hottest teams in MLS, capturing the top spot in the Eastern Conference with only one loss in their final seven matches. The Rapids are sporting momentum of their own following a 1-0 victory against Columbus on Thursday night. With injuries in central midfield, Larentowicz will be replied upon more than ever to provide veteran leadership. Bunbury finished tied for the Sporting scoring lead with nine goals, and will need to provide a spark as he enters his first post-season campaign.
