Restrepo was an NCAA champion at Virginia in 2009
Former U-17 goalkeeper Diego Restrepo has taken the next step in his professional career with America de Cali in his native Colombia. Since leaving residency, Restrepo has become an NCAA champion with Virginia before moving down to South America to try to break into the professional game. After joining America de Cali in January, Restrepo made his first two appearances for Los Diablos Rojos in their first two games of the season. Restrepo still looks fondly on his time in residency preparing for a U-17 FIFA World Cup:
“I owe everything that I am today to that, because it’s the best training you can get at that age,” Restrepo said. “If I’d have stayed in Colombia, I probably wouldn’t have become a professional player.”
Restrepo went on to be a part of the U-17 team that made the Second Round at the 2005 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Peru.
