We found out yesterday that Tobin Heath has never been in a training camp with Kristine Lilly. She's never really even had a conversation with the all-time U.S. great. Well, that will change on Sunday when Lilly arrives in training camp, but a brief look back at the past two years reveals clearly why the two have never played together. Lilly, of course, was in almost every national team event from 1987-2007, but took 2008 off to have a baby. Heath's first cap came in January of 2008. When Lilly was recalled in March of 2010, Heath was right in the middle of her injury/illness that kept her off the field with the WNT for about a year. They will finally share a meal next week, which seems to only make sense. Although they are several generations apart (Heath was born in 1988) a year AFTER Lilly earned her first WNT cap, both attended and were stars at UNC, both are left-footed, both have done some of their best work at left flank midfielder, both are dynamic dribbles and great servers of the ball, and Heath actually wore the number 13 that Lilly made famous during Lilly's time away from the WNT. They won't play in a game together however, as Heath is being brought along slowly to get her to full fitness after major ankle surgery and will not be playing in either of the two matches against China.
