Youth Soccer Team Presents U.S. Women with 'Good Luck Jersey'

SANTA CLARA, Calif (Saturday, September 6, 2003) – As the momentum builds for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2003 so does the excitement around the U.S. Women’s National Team. The latest example comes for Santa Clara, Calif., where a girl’s soccer team presented a "good luck jersey" to members of the team.

The lucky players from the Maroon Attack of California’s Central Valley Youth Soccer League – the same league that produced National Team Star Aly Wagner – got to meet the World Cup-bound team to present the jersey.

The next day, the U.S Women’s National Team went on to beat CONCACAF rival Mexico 5-0 in San Jose, Calif.’s, Spartan Stadium in the final tune-up match prior to the World Cup, which opens for the U.S. on Sept. 21 vs. Sweden at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. Wagner scored in the Mexico game on a penalty kick.
