U.S. Futsal Blog: Getting Settled in Guatemala
The U.S. Futsal National Team arrived in Guatemala City on Wednesday night, taking to the futsal court for training on Thursday afternoon.
Fourteen players made the trek to Guatemala on a quest for the team’s third consecutive trip to the FIFA Futsal World Cup. After winning the CONCACAF title in 2004, the team qualified for the FIFA Futsal World Cup in 2008 but didn’t take home any regional hardware. Head coach Keith Tozer’s side seeks to regain the regional title in 2012.The U.S. will face Panama, Canada or El Salvador, and host Guatemala in Group A, with the top two teams advancing to the semifinals. All four semifinalists qualify for the 2012 FIFA Futsal World Cup.

Canada and El Salvador are in the midst of a two-leg playoff series to determine the final participant at the 2012 CONCACAF Futsal Championship. El Salvador holds the advantage after the first match, having defeated Canada 4-1 with four goals from Rene Guillermo Rosales. The teams square off again on Friday, June 29, at 1 p.m. ET.
