U-18 MNT Drops 1-0 Decision to Portugal in Lisbon

LISBON, Portugal (May 26, 2011) -- The U.S. U-18 MNT dropped a close 1-0 decision to host Portugal this afternoon in their second game at the Lisbon International Tournament. An 83rd minute goal was enough to secure the win for the home side.

The game's only goal came after a poor clearance out of the U.S. half, which Ricardo Alves was able to bring down. He carried the ball from just across the midfield line toward the box and hit a hard, curling shot that went around American 'keeper Jon Kempin and into the top corner of the goal.

The U.S. will wrap up its trip to Lisbon with a match against Finland on Saturday morning, May 28. Mike Matkovich's team played to a 1-1 draw on May 25 against the Netherlands.
