CHICAGO (Sept. 21, 2012) – The U.S. Beach Soccer Team will compete in the 2012 Beach Soccer U.S. Indoor Championships from Nov. 13-18 at The Seminole Hard Rock Café and Casino in Hollywood, Fla.
The inaugural Beach Soccer U.S. Indoor Championships will feature the U.S. Beach Soccer Team along with beach soccer national teams from Brazil, Mexico, Spain, Venezuela and Colombia. Brazil are four-time winners of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, while Mexico are the current CONCACAF champions.
Tournament formatting and game schedules will be released at a later date.
The competition will provide the U.S. with good preparation ahead of the 2013 CONCACAF Qualifying Tournament for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup. The qualifying tournament location, dates and schedule has yet to be announced. The 2013 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, the seventh edition of the tournament, will be held from Sept. 18-28, 2013, at Toata Stadium in Papeete, Tahiti. Sixteen teams will qualify for the tournament, with two teams representing the CONCACAF region.
The U.S. qualified for the first three editions of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in 2005, 2006 and 2007, but has not reached the sport’s biggest stage in the last five years as El Salvador and Mexico have emerged as the teams to beat in CONCACAF.
