U.S. Wins Three Games at Under-20/Under-18 Super-Camp in San Diego


CHULA VISTA, Calif. (Feb. 9, 2009) -- The combined 48-player training camp that ran from Jan. 25-Feb. 1 featuring the U.S. Under-20 and U.S. Under-18 Women’s Team finished up at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. with three wins, pounding two local women’s teams and defeating UC Irvine by a 2-0 score.

The U-20s/U-18s defeated a San Diego Select Team on Jan. 29 by a 9-1 score as Alaskan Kelly Cobb scored four times. Allie Vernon, Chelsea Cline, Jazmin Ponce tallied single goals while Haley Brock scored twice in the last seven minutes for the final margin as the U.S. found the net four times in the first half and five in the second.

The U.S. team played two matches on Jan. 31, with forward Tani Costa and Tiffany McCarty scoring in the first half in the victory over UCI while Cobb tallied twice more in the 6-1 victory over the San Diego Sea Lions. Kealia Ohai also scored twice against the Sea Lions while Lauren Alwine and Brock each got a goal.

U.S. U-20 WNT head coach Jillian Ellis will take 18 players to La Manga, Spain for a 10-team tournament in early March while the U.S. U-18s will next come together for a training camp in April at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.
