Despite a number of early chances on goal, including two strikes by forward Quavas Kirk and a one-on-one for Preston Zimmerman, the U.S. couldn’t get on the scoreboard during the 90 minutes as Irvine’s ‘keeper came up with some world-class saves to keep a clean sheet.

To start the second half, U-17 ’88 head coach John Ellinger made overhauled the starting lineup, making seven substitutions. The new lineup wasn’t able to inject any new energy into the match though as the Strikers found the net three more times before the final whistle, scoring in the 53rd, 81st and 90th minutes.
