Islamic Republic of Iran to Open Trip to USA with Match Against Mexico in Oakland on Jan. 9

CHICAGO (Thursday, December 16, 1999) - The Iranian National Soccer Team will open their historic trip into the United States with a match against Mexico on Jan. 9 at the Oakland Network Associates Coliseum on Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000, at 2 p.m. PT.

The match will be followed one week later by the much-anticipated World Cup rematch between the USA and Iran on Jan. 16 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena at 2 p.m. PT (live on ESPN). The Rose Bowl date will also feature the U.S. Under-23 National Team taking on Armenia at 4:30 p.m. PT. The unique doubleheader is being presented by Budweiser.

Tickets for the Iran-Mexico match in Oakland range from $20-$50 and go on sale this Friday (Dec. 17) at 10 a.m. PT, and are available at all Bass Ticket Outlets or by calling 510-762-BASS. Group tickets are also available by calling 510-769-2914.

Mexican head coach Manuel Lapuente has confirmed that goalkeeper Jorge Campos, midfielder Miguel Angel Zepeda and forwards Juan Francisco Palencia and Luis Hernandez will all be part of the team taking on Iran.
