Day Two Diary from Sao Paulo – “Double Day”

Following breakfast on Wednesday, the full U.S. Men's National Team operation – chefs and all – moved to Barra Funda, the training ground of Sao Paulo FC, for the day. While the morning session of passing patterns, crossing and finishing was underway, the administrative staff set up a mobile office, while the food preparation team cooked in the kitchen on site.

The U.S. MNT had lunch in the restaurant then retired to the upscale dorm area for afternoon relaxation. They also had the option of heading to the media center, where on the big screen, the coaching staff showed a match of Sao Paulo FC if players wanted a glimpse of what they would see in Thursday’s closed door scrimmage. New York Red Bulls midfielder Dax McCarty took questions from fans on a @ussoccer Twitter Takeover, while Jurgen Klinsmann began a series of one-on-one interviews with the top media outlets in Brazil.

Another hoard of journalists attended the afternoon training, with Brazilian-born Benny Feilhaber putting his fluent Portuguese on display while Graham Zusi described the USA’s first impressions of Brazil. The thermometer rose above 90 degrees, giving the players a feel for what the climate will be like in group games this summer. After some 5-vs.-2 competition and a full-field exercise, it was straight into the cold tubs to start the regeneration process and back into the city for dinner at the team hotel.

Thursday, the MNT will get a chance at the first 11-vs.-11 exercise against another opponent in this January camp and enjoy a well-earned afternoon off.
