Midfielder Alejandro Bedoya Called to Cary, N.C.

(CHICAGO) May 30, 2011 - Alejandro Bedoya has been called to join training camp with the U.S. Men’s National Team as they continue preparations for the upcoming friendly against 2010 FIFA World Cup champion Spain and the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Bedoya arrives while evaluation continues on Benny Feilhaber, who suffered an ankle injury the New England Revolution’s 1-0 loss to Los Angeles on May 28 at Gillette Stadium, site of the USA’s match against Spain.

No official change has been made to the roster while the evaluation is in progress. Teams participating in the Gold Cup have up to 24 hours prior to their first match in the tournament to replace an injured player on the roster. The U.S. opens Group C play on June 7 against Canada.

Bedoya, who earned seven caps in his first year with the full team last year, earned a spot on the 30-man preliminary roster for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. He has four goals in nine matches for Orebro this year.

More than 57,000 tickets have been sold for the June 4 friendly against No. 1-ranked Spain. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. ET, and the match will be broadcast live on ESPN and Univision. Fans can follow along on’s MatchTracker and on Twitter @ussoccer.
