U.S. U-21 and U-19 Women Take on the Pros at WUSA Spring Training; Each Youth National Team Will Play Three Matches Against WUSA

CHICAGO (Thursday, March 22, 2001) - The U.S. Under-21 and U-19 Women's National Teams will arrive in San Diego on Friday for training as well as matches against teams from the WUSA currently involved in final preparations for the inaugural season during WUSA Spring Training at the ARCO U.S. Olympic Training Center.

U-19 head coach Tracey Leone will bring a squad of 24 players to San Diego while new U-21 head coach Jerry Smith will get a look at 20 players. Many of the top players in Smith's pool attended the Algarve Cup with the full U.S. Women's National Team last week in Portugal and are not available for this camp due to school commitments.

Each team will play three matches against WUSA teams, one each March 25, March 28 and March 31. Leone will continue the evaluation and training process to prepare her team for the first-ever FIFA Women's Under-19 World Championship to be held in 2002 in Canada. Smith will be looking for players to make his roster for this summer's Nordic Cup, the top competition in the world for U-21 women. Following are the rosters and game schedule for both teams:

March 25

10 a.m. - U.S. U-21s vs. Philadelphia Charge (Field 2)

March 28
10 a.m. - U.S. U-21s vs. Carolina Courage (Field 1)
Noon - U.S. U-19s vs. New York Power (Field 2)

March 31
Noon - U.S. U-19s vs. Bay Area CyberRays (Field 1)
Noon - U.S. U-21s vs. San Diego Spirit (Field 2)
