Remaining Quarterfinal Dates Set for Inaugural Giants' Cup


CHICAGO (Tuesday, May 22, 2001) - The dates for the two remaining quarterfinal series still to be played in the inaugural FC Giants Cup, along with the kickoff times for the semifinals and finals, have been set.

The first leg of Quarterfinal Series 2, matching CD Guadalajara of Mexico and CSD Comunicaciones of Guatemala, will be played Wednesday 25 July in Guatemala at the Estadio Mateo Flores. The return leg will be played Wednesday 1 August, at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. local time.

Quarterfinal Series 3, matching CF America of Mexico and CSD Municipal of Guatemala, will have its first leg played on Sunday 8 July in Guatemala, also at the Estadio Mateo Flores. The second leg will be played Tuesday 31 July, at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. local time.

The semifinals are set for Friday 3 August, also at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, with the matches set to kickoff at 7 and 9 p.m. local time. D.C. United of the USA will meet the winner of the Guadalajara-Comunicaciones quarterfinal in one match, while CD Saprissa of Costa Rica will face the winner of the America-Municipal series in the other match. The exact order of the semifinals will be announced at a later date.

The semifinal winners will meet at 3 p.m. local time on Sunday 5 August in Los Angeles for the first Giants Cup title, preceded by the match for third place. But the finalists will have already booked places for the first FC Clubs' Cup, set for early 2003, a qualification tournament for the next FIFA Club World Championship.
