AC St. Louis Forward Mike Ambersley Named July Player of the Month

CHICAGO (Aug. 6, 2010) – U.S. Soccer announced today that AC St. Louis forward Mike Ambersley was voted the USSF Division-2 Professional League July Player of the Month. Ambersley scored four goals, including the first hat trick in franchise history and another game-winner, for St. Louis during the month of July.

The St. Louis, Mo., native made his mark late in the month when he scored the only goal in a 1-0 away victory at Crystal Palace Baltimore on July 24. Just four days later, he scored the first hat trick in AC St. Louis history against Portland at home on July 28. Two first half goals just two minutes apart set up Ambersley to net his third just before the hour mark and seal the 3-0 victory on a hot day at Anheuser-Busch Soccer Park.

Ambersley now finds himself tied for fourth place in the league with six goals and tied for seventh place with 12 points on the year.

St. Louis holds a 5-10-5 record after 20 games and is looking to push for a playoff spot as the season enters the final third of the league schedule. Their next match is tonight, Aug. 6, at home against Vancouver Whitecaps FC at 8:10 p.m. ET.

The USSF D-2 Pro League Player of the Month is selected by a panel of journalists comprised of members of print, television, radio and online media hailing from each of the 12 USSF D-2 Pro League clubs’ local markets.
