Date Change and Draw Procedure Set for Upcoming CONCACAF U-20 Championship

CHICACO (Feb. 9, 2011) -- CONCACAF has announced a date change for the 2011 U-20 Championship to be held in Guatemala – the tournament will now be played from March 28-April 10.

Thomas Rongen’s team will learn its game dates, opponents and venue during the official draw, which is set for Friday, Feb. 9, in Guatemala City. For the draw, the U.S. has been placed in a pot with host Guatemala, Mexico and Canada. A second pot includes Costa Rica, Honduras, Panama and Trinidad & Tobago and the third pot is made up of Cuba, Guadeloupe, Jamaica and Suriname.

One team from each pot will be placed into four groups, with the top two teams in each group advancing to the quarterfinals. The quarterfinal winners will earn CONCACAF’s four berths to the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia.

The CONCACAF U-20 Championship will be played at the 30,000-seat Estadio Nacional Mateo Flores and the 16,000-capacity Estadio Cementos Progresso.
