Paraguay Sneaks Into Round of 16 With 3-1 Win; Spain Knocks In Three More
Paraguay scored three times in the final 25 minutes to grab a 3-1 win over Slovenia and secure a spot in the Round of 16. Needing a big win and some cooperation from Spain, Paraguay overcame a sloppy first half that included an ejection to top a resilient Slovenia team.
Slovenia went ahead in injury time of the first half thanks to a glaring error by Paraguayan goalkeeper Jose Luis Chilavert. Facing elimination from the tournament, Paraguay played their best half of soccer this tournament in the second half, scoring three times and watching a Chilavert free kick glance off the crossbar.
Nelson Cuevas scored twice and Jorge Campos added his own in the 73rd minute to cover up Chilavert's mistake and pass South Africa to take second place in Group B. Both teams finished with four points and a goal differential of zero. Paraguay took the second spot based on their six first-round goals.

Spain 3 - South Africa 2
Spain scored three goals for the third straight match, this time topping a resilient South Africa team 3-2 to finish group play with a perfect 3-0-0 record.
South Africa let in an early goal that would come back to prove costly. South African goalkeeper Andre Arendse lost control of an easy through ball, allowing Raul to walk in and score in the fourth minute.
The teams traded goals the rest of the match, with Raul scoring the gamewinner in the 56th minute.
The 3-2 loss, coupled with Paraguay's 3-1 win, relegates South Africa to a third-place finish - behind Paraguay on the "total goals" tiebreaker. (Each finished with four points and a zero goal differential.)
