Home Depot Center to Host U.S. WNT on Aug. 25 in Women's World Cup Send-Off Game

CHICAGO (April 19, 2007) – The U.S. Women’s National Team will play Finland in its 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup Send-Off Series match at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., on Saturday, Aug. 25. ESPN2 will broadcast the game live at an evening time that will be announced at a later date.

Fans in Southern California will get a final chance to cheer to the team onto China as the USA finishes its Women’s World Cup preparations where the U.S. head coach Greg Ryan has conducted Residency Training Camp this year, starting last April.

The game, the final of six Send-Off Series matches that will begin June 16 vs. China in Cleveland, will be the last before the U.S. departs for the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup in China, being held Sept. 10-30. The U.S. will also play on June 23 vs. Brazil in East Rutherford, N.J., on July 14 vs. Norway in East Hartford, Conn., on July 28 vs. Japan in San Jose, Calif., and on Aug. 12 vs. New Zealand in Chicago.

“U.S. Soccer has put together an excellent series of matches for us leading into the Women’s World Cup,” said Ryan. “We’ll get to see some teams that will be in China in September, it will give the players a chance to play games at home after so many games abroad recently, and it will give fans across the United States the chance to see the team and cheer them on before we embark on the great challenge of trying to win the Women’s World Cup.&rdqu o;

Tickets starting at $20 go on sale on Thursday, April 26, at 10 a.m. PT at ussoccer.com, all Southern California Ticketmaster outlets (including Macy’s, Wherehouse Music and Ritmo Latino), the Home Depot Center Ticket Office (Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.), and by phone at 213- 480-3232. Groups of 15 or more can purchase tickets at reduced prices by calling U.S. Soccer at 312-528-1290 or obtaining a group order form at ussoccer.com.

The U.S. is 11-0-0 vs. Finland, including a closely fought 1-0 victory for the U.S. on a Carli Lloyd goal in the 2007 Algarve Cup last March. The U.S. has shut out Finland in 10 of the 11 meetings, allowing a lone goal on Feb. 24, 1999 in a 3-1 victory.

This will be the eighth appearance for the U.S. WNT at The Home Depot Center, where the U.S. has a perfect 7-0-0 record including victories in the 2006 CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup title match and the third place match of the 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup draw is taking place on April 22 in Wuhan, China, at which time the USA will find out its first-round schedule and venues for the fifth FIFA Women’s World Cup. The U.S. is coming off a 5-0 victory vs. Mexico in the first domestic match of 2007 on April 14. The team will return to Residency Training Camp in Carson, Calif., on April 21 and play Canada on May 12 in Frisco, Texas (tickets), before kicking off the Send-Off Series one month later.
