Brandi Chastain Added to U.S. Roster for Match Against Ireland

CHICAGO (Wednesday, September 1, 1999) - Women's World Cup hero Brandi Chastain, who was originally left off the roster for this Saturday's match vs. Ireland at Foxboro Stadium due to a schedule conflict, will join the U.S. Women's National Team after being able to reschedule an appearance that was set for the day of the game. The appearance had been booked before the USA-Ireland clash was announced.

Chastain, who nailed the clinching penalty kick against China in the Women's World Cup Final that was watched by 90,125 fans at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena and 40 million viewers nationwide, will arrive in Boston on the morning of the match and be available for action against the Irish. Following her pressure kick, Chastain appeared on the cover of Time, Newsweek, Sports Illustrated, and along with her teammates, on People magazine.
