U-18 MNT Takes Third at Milk Cup

BALLYMONEY, Northern Ireland (July 29, 2011) -- The U.S. U-18 MNT finished in third place at the 2011 Milk Cup after a 2-1 win against Georgia in the placement match. Jordan McCrary scored in the first half and Jerome Kiesewetter netted his second goal of the tournament in the second half to keep the U.S. undefeated with two wins and a draw in Northern Ireland.

Just six minutes before halftime, Jose Villareal struck a free kick from 25 yards out that goalkeeper Robert Imerliskuil did well to save, but his rebound fell to McCrary's feet near the right corner of the box. His low shot to the far post gave the USA a 1-0 edge.

In the 58th minute, some defensive work from Omar Salgado led to a turnover. Salgado pounced on the ball and streaked into the box before sliding a low, driven ball across the goal mouth. Kiesewetter was making his run to the far post, and got a good low shot that beat the goalkeeper and doubled the U.S. lead.

Georgia got one back just two minutes later, capitalizing on a scramble in the U.S. defensive end. Boba Rukhadze found a bouncing ball in the U.S. box and struck a hard shot that sailed high and past Kempin.

Mike Matkovich's side finished the Milk Cup with a win against Israel and a draw with Mexio before Friday's win versus Georgia. Denmark, which edged the USA by a goals scored tiebreaker to reach the final, won the tournament's championship with a 1-0 win against Northern Ireland.
