Come From Behind Effort Leads PDA to 3-2 Win Against FC Greater Boston

CARSON, Calif. (July 16, 2009) – PDA battled from behind against FC Greater Boston to turn a two-goal deficit into a 3-2 win in the fifth-place match at Development Academy Finals Week in Carson, Calif.

FC Greater Boston was in control early on, using the speed of their two forwards to create dangerous opportunities. In the 24th minute their efforts paid off. Charlie Rugg made a great long run down the right side, slipping past the last defender and getting himself in alone on goal. He took a touch around goalkeeper William Smith and touched the ball into the net. Four minutes later, Gideon Gyasi doubled FC Greater Boston’s lead when he received a ball in the box, turned, and ripped a low shot that gave Smith no chance.

In the 38th minute, PDA got one back when Matthew Pesci was tripped up inside the box and awarded a penalty. JP Rosero stepped up and converted to cut into the Bolts lead. As PDA pressed for the equalizer, they began to take over much the second half. Jossimar Sanchez set up the tying the goal in the 70th minute with an impressive run down the right flank and slotted ball for Ryan Finley. Finley was able to knock a low shot into the goal to level the score at two.

Just five minutes later, a PDA free kick led to the eventual game-winner. Hunter Gorksie touched it around the wall to Rosero, who hit a low shot that deflected off of a defender and into the near post.

With the win, PDA takes fifth place in the U-17/18 division at Development Academy Finals Week while FC Greater Boston earns sixth place.
