U.S. Soccer Referees Jair Marrufo, Baldomero Toledo and Charles Morgante Selected for Possible CONCACAF Gold Cup Assignments

15 Referees and 15 Assistant Referees Selected Overall in Gold Cup Pool

CHICAGO (May 19, 2011) – Three U.S. Soccer referees were selected for possible assignments during the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup. CONCACAF released the names of the 15 referees and 15 assistant referees eligible to officiate during the tournament earlier today.

Jair Marrufo and Baldomero Toledo were selected as candidates in the Gold Cup Referee Pool, while Charles Morgante was also declared eligible for the Gold Cup Assistant Referee Pool.

Before receiving a definite assignment in the Gold Cup, each referee and assistant referee must pass a fitness examination that will be conducted from May 30-June 4 in Dallas, Texas. This test will occur during the CONCACAF Elite Referee Course, which also serves as preparation for CONCACAF’s other major competitions this year, the Champions League and 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. Instruction, guidance and overall preparation for the upcoming competition will also be included in the course.

Overall, 11 CONCACAF members are represented in the list of Gold Cup eligible referees and assistant referees, 10 of whom will be making their competition debuts.
