DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY STARTING XI ANNOUNCED: As the fourth day of games kick off during Finals Week at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., U.S. Soccer has unveiled the 2008-09 Development Academy Starting XI honorees as the second year of the program moves towards the end of another successful season. The awards, which will include Coach and Player of the Year announcements later this week, were voted upon by Development Academy clubs and National Staff Coaches. Both the U-15/16 and U-17/18 Starting XI teams are made up mostly of players who have experience at the U-17, U-18 and/or U-20 Men’s National Team level.

FIRST PLACE MATCH-UPS ON HAND IN U-15/16 GROUPS: The two top teams in each Under-15/16 group will clash this afternoon in matches that will have huge implications on who may move on to the championship match. In Group 1, Chicago Magic AS Monaco will take on the Derby County Wolves for the top spot at 4 p.m. PT, while Cal Odyssey and PDA play at 7 p.m. for first place in Group 2. The other teams in each group will be looking for their first points of Finals Week and for the opportunity to get back into the race, with FC Dallas taking on New York Red Bulls at 3 p.m. PT in Group 1 and Greensboro Youth Soccer facing Washington Premier FC in Group 2 at 6 p.m. PT.   • The Chicago Magic AS Monaco and Derby County Wolves are both holding impressive undefeated streaks going into their Group 1 match on Monday. The Magic haven’t lost in the past 13 games (11-0-2), scoring 28 goals while only allowing eight. The Wolves haven’t gone down in 12 matches (9-0-3), also only allowing eight goals while tallying 31.
  • The Magic and Wolves met only one time this year, meeting in just the second match of the season and playing to a scoreless draw.
  • PDA and Cal Odyssey are also on streaks going into their Group 2 matchup on Monday, albeit just not as impressive. PDA is on a six-game undefeated streak (4-0-2), while Cal Odyssey has been perfect through their last five games, winning in commanding fashion with 15 goals for and just two allowed.
  • Aaron Horton (Chicago Magic AS Monaco) and Reed Losee (Derby County Wolves) lead the U-15/16 age group with two goals each after the opening games on Saturday.
  • The 11 goals scored in the U-15/16 age group have come from nine different players.

U-17/18 GROUP 1 DOWN TO CARMEL AND IMG: Carmel United SC is closing in on their second appearance in a Development Academy championship match after a 1-0 victory against the Dallas Texans on Sunday afternoon kept them atop Group 1, but IMG Soccer Academy is hoping to dash any hopes of a repeat appearance. One year ago, Carmel United won the inaugural U-15/16 Development Academy championship, and can clinch a spot in the U-17/18 final with a win or a draw against IMG on Tuesday. In the other group match, the Dallas Texans will face FC Greater Boston. Both matches will kick off at 7 p.m. PT at The Home Depot Center.

U-17/18 GROUP 2 STILL WIDE OPEN: Three of the four teams in the Under-17/18 Group 2 have an opportunity to advance to the championship match. PDA moved up to first place after a 3-1 victory against CASL Chelsea FC Academy, snagging the top spot on goal difference just ahead of Real Colorado, which also has four points after beating D.C. United on Sunday.

WATCH U-17/18 GAMES ON USSOCCER.COM: Catch all the action from the third day of games from The Home Depot Center between the U-17/18 age group today on as all four games will be replayed on Starting at 2 p.m. PT, each match will be played back-to-back giving fans the opportunity to watch some of the best youth players in the nation. The one-day delayed broadcasts will be available for every game played during Finals Week, with the exception of the two championship matches on July 16 and July 17, which will be shown live on ESPN Classic.

  • There were two multiple goal scorers in matches on Sunday, with Luis Calzadilla tallying both goals for IMG Soccer Academy on Sunday against FC Greater Boston in their 2-1 victory, and J.P. Rosero tallied two of PDA’s goals in a 3-1 win against CASL Chelsea FC.
  • D.C. United’s Andy Najar leads both age groups with three goals at Finals Week after netting a hat trick in their opening match against CASL Chelsea FC on Friday afternoon.
  • The 20 goals scored during the first eight games have come from 16 different goal scorers.
  • Carmel United SC has yet to lose a match in six games played during the DA Finals Week at both the U-15/16 and U-17/18 age levels, cumulating a 5-0-1 overall record over the past two years. Last year, Carmel United went 3-0-1 in route to winning the inaugural 2007-08 Under-15/16 Development Academy Championship. At the U-17/18 age group this year, they’ve continued their winning ways so far with a perfect 2-0-0 record.
  • Carmel United has not allowed a goal in 284 minutes, a span of more than three games, going back to last year when they drew LAFC 2-2 in their final group match.
  • A total of 10 of 20 players on this year’s U-17/18 Carmel United squad were on of the team that won the inaugural U-15/16 championship last year.

CHAMPIONS TO BE CROWNED LIVE ON ESPN CLASSIC: For the second consecutive year, the U.S. Soccer’s Development Academy season will finish on a high note during Finals Week with the championship match in both age groups being broadcast live on ESPN Classic. Both matches will be played at U.S. Soccer’s National Training Center at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., with the U-17/18 championship taking place on Thursday, July 16 at 7 p.m. PT and the U-15/16 championship a day later on Friday, July 17 at 7 p.m. PT.
