U.S. Under-17 '90s Fall 1-0 to FC Delco on Final Day of Nike Friendlies

BRADENTON, Fla. (December 4, 2005) — The U.S. Under-17 ’90 Men’s National Team fell 1-0 to the older FC Delco U-17s on the final day of the 2005 Nike Friendlies in Bradenton, Fla.

The U.S. had two chances in the first half, but couldn’t put one past FC Delco goalkeeper Matt Brutto. The first opportunity came in the 22nd minute when Jared Jeffries found some room at the top of the box and unleashed a shot that went just wide left. Danny Wenzel had the second chance in the 38th minute, ripping a deep attempt from 30 yards that went just over the bar.

The U.S. struggled to build much of an attack in the second half against the older, more experienced FC Delco players. The majority of the U.S. players were born in 1990, while FC Delco was an almost even mix of players born in 1988 and 1989.

The Pennsylvania club put the U.S. on its heels during a three-minute period, finally breaking through in the 54th minute. Robert Glenn and midfielder Larry Silvi had back-to-back chances with U.S. ‘keeper Josh Lambo saving Glenn’s attempt, while Silvi’s shot went just over the bar.

Glenn finally gave FC Delco the game winner when he was sent through behind the U.S. defense and was able to slip his shot past a sprawling Lambo.
