Referee of the Week for Week Nine

Referee of the Week: Baboucarr Jallow

Baboucarr Jallow has been selected as the Development Academy Referee of the Week for a stellar performance Saturday, Nov. 6, in a Northwest Division matchup between Crossfire Premier and San Jose Earthquakes.

Jallow started refereeing in 1999 in his home country of Gambia where he eventually acquired his FIFA referee badge. He moved to the United States in 2003 and is working to attain his national badge for 2011. Jallow has officiated almost 50 Development Academy matches in the past two years and was invited to attend the 2010 Academy Finals Week in Carson, Calif., as an assistant referee. He has also gained experience in the USL and PDL and within the Youth National Team program. He has also refereed in the 2009 and 2010 Open Cups and 2010 MLS exhibition matches.

Not only is Jallow involved with soccer in Seattle at an elite youth level but he is also a community organizer who helps local children in the African community in soccer and educational programs. When he is not refereeing, Jallow is a social worker who also enjoys basketball and cooking. Earlier this year, he gained U.S. citizenship.
