CHICAGO (Oct. 23, 2012) – U.S. Beach Soccer head coach Eddie Soto has named a 12-player roster for the Beach Soccer Worldwide Intercontinental Cup 2012 from Oct. 27-Nov. 4 in the United Arab Emirates.
The U.S. Beach Soccer team was drawn into Group A with the United Arab Emirates, Tahiti and defending tournament and FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup champion Russia for tournament in Dubai.
The U.S. kicks off the tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 6 p.m. local time (10 a.m. ET) against reigning champion Russia before facing the UAE on Wednesday, Oct. 31, at 8:30 p.m. local (12:30 p.m. ET). The U.S. closes out group play on Thursday, Nov. 1, at 6 p.m. local (10 a.m. ET) against Tahiti.
The top two teams from each group advance to the semifinals on Nov. 2. The third-place match and the final are scheduled for Nov. 3.
Group B consists of Brazil, Switzerland, Nigeria and Japan.
The U.S. roster contains a mix of experienced veterans with younger talent. The average age of the USA’s roster for the Intercontinental Cup 2012 is 27 years old. The team’s captain for the tournament is defender Francis Farberoff, while the youngest member is 22-year-old defender Oscar Reyes, a former member of the UCLA men’s soccer team from 2008-2011.
