PDA Tops Washington Premier 1-0 to Open U-15/16 Play at Development Academy Finals Week

CARSON, Calif. (July 11, 2009) – Brandon Allen’s goal just minutes before the end of the first half would prove to be the game winner as PDA topped Washington Premier FC in the first game of U-15/16 action at Development Academy Finals Week.

Despite holding a majority of the possession throughout the game, Washington Premier could not translate it onto the scoreboard. The play of Jamael Cox and Sean Okoli created problems for the PDA defense throughout the afternoon, but their efforts did not turn into goals.

Washington had the first good chance when Troy Peterson ripped a long-range shot, but PDA ‘keeper Jake Wagmeister did well to tip it over the crossbar.

The lone goal of the game came on one of PDA’s well-developed counter attack opportunities. Forward Brandon Allen received the ball at the top of the box, touched it around a defender and blasted it into the far upper corner of the net. It was PDA’s first shot on goal of the game.

In the waning moments of the game, Okoli made a run from just inside his attacking half, running by two defenders and pushing the ball into the box. It appeared as though the goalkeeper pulled him down inside the box, but the referee whistled for a handball against Okoli before the challenge.

Next up for PDA is a battle with fellow Group 2 leader Cal Odyssey on Monday evening at 7 p.m. Washington Premier is set for a match up against Greensboro Youth Soccer at 6 p.m.
