U.S. Futsal National Team Wins Four Nations Tournament in England

CHICAGO (June 13, 2013) – The U.S. National Futsal Team won the Four Nations Tournament in England with three consecutive victories against Poland, Malaysia and England. Kraig Chiles and Machel Millwood led the team in scoring, with 5 goals apiece.

The U.S. opened the tournament with a 2-1 win against England. Chiles scored first in the 16th minute when Sandre Naumoski won a ball in the midfield that was picked up by Bryan Perez. Perez carried it forward, dishing it to Chiles on the left side of the goal where he side-footed the ball into the net.

England equalized in the 30th minute but Chiles came through with the game winner eight minutes later. Naumoski again initiated the play, passing the ball out of the back for Lucas Stauffer on the right. Stauffer crossed the ball for Chiles on the left as he slid and knocked the ball into the goal.

One day later, the U.S. in general, and Millwood in particular, put on a goal-scoring display in an 8-1 win against Malaysia. Millwood scored the first five goals of the game before Malaysia pulled one back in the 31st minute. Five minutes later, Lucas Stauffer finished off a pass from goalkeeper Nicholas Vorberg to make it 6-1. Chiles finished off the scoring with goals in the 38th and 40th minutes.

With six points in hand, the U.S. had only one game left, against Poland. Poland struck early with a goal from Michal Wojciechowski in the eighth minute. Stauffer led the comeback with goals in the 22nd and 30th minutes. Wojciechowski struck again in the 35th, but goals from Chiles in the 38th and Patrick Healey in the 40th gave the U.S. the victory and the Four Nations Tournament title.
