U.S. Paralympic National Team Secures Place in 2011 CPISRA World Championship with Draw Against Argentina
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (Oct. 24, 2010) – The U.S. Paralympic National Team came from behind to tie Argentina at the ongoing 2010 Copa America in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The draw guarantees the U.S. team a top-three finish, which qualifies them for the 2011 CPISRA World Championships in London. From the 2011 event next summer, four teams will qualify for the 2012 Paralympic Games in London.
The US can finish in second with a win against Venezuela and a Brazil win against Argentina, pending a favorable goal difference.
After being down 2-0 against Argentina, Josh McKinney scored two goals off of Marthell Vazquez free kicks to earn a valuable point. The US had several chances having one ball cleared off the line and a goal called back.
The two goals marked Josh McKinney’s fifth and sixth in the tournament, giving him 64 goals in 88 games with the Paralympic team.
