U.S. U-20 Women Enter Camp in New Jersey
The U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team will hold a training camp from June 27-July 5 in New Jersey as preparations for the 2006 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Championship enter the final stages. U.S. head coach Tim Schulz will have his 21-player world championship roster together for the first time, although several players are nursing injuries. The roster includes the three players who have been with the full U.S. Women’s National Team in Residency Training Camp in defender Stephanie Lopez and forwards Amy Rodriguez and Lauren Cheney. Those three, whose time with the U-20s has been limited by call-ups to the full team, will be with the U-20s through the World Championship. The training camp will feature at least six matches, including two against a team of East Coast college all-stars. The USA will finish the camp with a match against the reigning USL W-League champion New Jersey Wildcats on July 5. The 2006 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Championship being held from Aug. 17-Sept. 3 in Russia. The U.S. U-20s will open the 2006 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Championship against the DR Congo on Aug. 18, face Argentina on Aug. 21 and finish group play against France on Aug. 24. All the first-round matches will be played in Moscow.
