Parkhurst Called in to MNT Camp ahead of Game against Sweden

CARSON, Calif. (Jan 17, 2009) – Defender Michael Parkhurst has been called into the Men's National Team training camp in Carson, Calif. and will join up with his teammates as they prepare to face Sweden on Jan. 24 at The Home Depot Center.

Parkhurst, who is in the midst of midseason training with FC Nordsjælland, arrives from Copenhagen on Saturday afternoon. MNT head coach Bob Bradley has called on the former New England Revolution player to replenish a defensive corps that has seen the withdrawal of Jason Hernandez and Chad Marshall due to injury. Hernandez recently pulled out of camp with a calf strain, while Marshall was slowed by a knee injury earlier this week.

Parkhurst has four caps to his credit, and he most recently appeared at center back during the USA's 2-0 win over Guatemala in World Cup Qualifying last November.

The U.S. MNT is preparing for an international friendly against Sweden on Jan. 24 at The Home Deopt Center in Carson, Calif. The game kicks off at 5:30 p.m. PT (tickets) and can be seen live on Fox Soccer Channel and Galavision. Fans can also follow the action on's MatchTracker.
