CHICAGO (Monday, July 14, 2003) - The U.S. Women's National Team debuted their new Nike uniforms on Sunday during an exciting 1-0 victory over Brazil at Tad Gormely Stadium in New Orleans in front of a national ESPN television audience. The innovative and stylish uniforms will be seen throughout the remainder of the U.S. Women's National Team competition this year, including the upcoming 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup being played in six venues across the country from Sept. 20 to Oct. 12.
The great new home and away uniforms are available right now for the first time anywhere at ussoccerstore.com. The white home jersey features a number of distinctive features, including blue side-panels and two angular blue triangles on the shoulder blades. The red road jersey features blue paneling on the hips and underarms. Both uniforms feature two stars on the right sleeve to indicate the U.S. Women's FIFA Women's World Cup championship victories in 1991 and 1999.
After several months of research into performance fabrics and fit, Nike’s team of women designers and developers have come up with a new mechanical stretch Dri-Fit fabric for the jersey and short that is extremely lightweight and comfortable.To increase airflow and ventilation, mesh side panels were added to the jersey. The seaming lines were designed to complement the female athlete's body and to allow for a range of dynamic motion.
The new home and away short borrowed its design from proven running technologies and styles. With cooling mesh vents incorporated into the outer sides of the home short, the Dri-FIT material offers enhanced breathability and lightweight comfort for 90 minutes of intense play.
